Steam Kinetic Mill Principle and Advantages

System Principle and Composition

Targeting the operational characteristics of thermal power plants, the steam kinetic mill utilizes low-to-medium-grade steam as a power source. Through unique supersonic airflow collision technology, it accelerates, mutually collides, and shears fly ash residues to achieve ultrafine pulverization. The pulverized materials undergo turbine airflow classification, with qualified fine powders entering the dust removal system for collection, while coarse powders are returned to the pulverizing chamber for further pulverization. The entire ultrafine pulverization process is conducted in a completely dry environment, and the purified air is discharged through the induced fan. The Steam Mill system typically consists of four parts: a feeding system, a main system, a classification system, and a collection system.

Advantages

(1) Low cost/low energy consumption, low risk, and low noise. Mechanical pulverization generally has difficulty pulverizing to particle sizes below 10um, and it is associated with high energy consumption and severe noise pollution. Although pneumatic pulverization can meet requirements, its energy utilization rate is only about 2%, resulting in high energy consumption and low productivity, which greatly limits its scope of application. (Energy transfer process: Fuel's thermal energy → potential and thermal energy of superheated steam → electrical energy → potential energy of air → kinetic energy of jet airflow → kinetic energy of material particles.) Additionally, conventional pneumatic pulverization using air as the medium has certain requirements for medium storage, posing a relatively high safety risk. Meanwhile, the production cost of steam mills is only 1/5 to 1/8 of that of pneumatic mills.

(2) The classification particle size is finer, achieving nanoscale classification, with better particle sphericity and particle size distribution uniformity. The pulverizing intensity of high-temperature steam mills is more than twice that of traditional pneumatic mills, and the impact force is more than four times higher, saving 30% of energy compared to conventional pneumatic mills. For example, it can process ultrafine powders of 10um or even 1-2um, depending on needs.

(3) It fully utilizes unused superheated steam, complying with the country's current policy of vigorously promoting energy conservation and emission reduction, and is likely to receive government support for scientific and technological funds and national scientific and technological awards. The steam mill utilizes the superheated steam (temperature of about 250°C, pressure of 0.25MPa) from power plants, which is a heat source that is not easily used in power plants, increasing the utilization of waste heat in power plants. This has significant economic and social impacts.

(4) It is easy to maintain, with low maintenance costs. As the steam kinetic mill pulverizes materials through mutual collisions between materials, the equipment wears less. Even if large foreign objects (such as bolts, iron blocks, etc.) enter the equipment, they will not damage it. It has a low maintenance rate, few vulnerable parts, and low equipment maintenance costs.

(5) It has a wide range of technical applications. Typical materials include fly ash, sulfur-fixing waste residue, titanium dioxide, coal powder, petroleum coke, carbon black, carbon, blast furnace slag, steel slag, graphite, mica, talc, quartz, calcite, barite, diatomaceous earth, aluminum/magnesium hydroxide, metal oxides, and all other temperature-resistant materials.
